HOW TO PREPARE NEWS REPORT?

Components of News Report: 

There are four parts of New Report:

                             1. Headline
                             2. Byline (According to CBSE books)
                             3. Lead/Intro
                             4. Main Body

Technique To Prepare Effective Headline: 

        1. Use of Simple Present Tense: 
            Purpose: i) To maintain freshness of the news.
                         e.g. India beats Pak by 4 wicket  
                         (India defeated Pak yesterday but Headline is in Simple Present)
                           ii) To give reader a feeling of actual presence at the place of occurence

        2. Short form of Passive Voice
                            i) To give more importance to the 'Actionthan the 'Doer 
                         e.g. 5 killed in accident  (5 persons were killed in and accident)
                           ii) To make headline Short and Effective.
                         e.g. 5 militants gunned down in Uri

        3. Use of Active Voice:
                            i) To show 'Doer'  is more important than the 'Action'
                         e.g.   Prime Minister visits quake victims
                           ii) To create feeling of urgency
                         e.g. Thieves grab 1 crores gems (Urgency)
                                
        4. Omission of ARTICLES ('a' , 'an' 'the' ) from the Headline :
                         for .e.g. Patil wants assembly meet
                                          (Patil wants an assembly meet) Removed 'An'
       5. Use of conctrete and vivid words:
                        for e.g Thieves grab 1 croes gems 
                                        is prefered to

NEW DELHI , FEBRUARY:  The death toll due to swine flu in the country has soared to 226 with the H1N1 virus claiming 31 more lives in a week till Monday, while the number of those affected crossed the 6,000 mark.
  In view of rising cases of swine flu and deaths due to the disease in Gujarat and Punjab, the Union Health Ministry has sent two teams to assess the situation and assist the states in strengthening their response mechanism to contain the ailment.
Fifty-four deaths and 1,187 cases were reported in Gujarat till February 7, while 30 deaths and 301 cases were reported from Punjab, according to data by the Health Ministry.
“Two central teams have been sent to Gujarat and Punjab as they have reported large number of fatalities due to the H1N1 infection,” said an official from the ministry
